The Director General of Italian state broadcaster Rai, Antonio Campo Dall Orto on Friday resigned during a meeting with the Minister of economy and Finance of Italy pier Carlo Padoana, reported the press service of the Rai.

«During a very cordial meeting Minister Padoan took note of the decision of the Campo Dall Orto to resign as Director General», — stated in the message.

His decision to resign Campo Dall Orto had to agree with Padoana, because his Ministry is the largest shareholder of the sole state broadcaster of the country. Now the resignation of the CEO will be approved at the next meeting of the Board of Directors of the company.

The decision to resign Campo Dall Orto accepted after on Monday, Rai Board of Directors voted against the proposed program for the development of digital technologies and changes in broadcasting, including the creation of a new channel Rai24.

It is noteworthy that against the fundamental proposals of the CEO voted to the Board of Directors, representing both the ruling parliamentary majority and opposition political forces, and the President of Rai Monica Magione.
