On raising the minimum wage (SMIC) to 90% of the subsistence minimum will be required for employees of government agencies of constituent entities of the Russian Federation and municipal institutions – 55.7 billion rubles, and the costs of employers in the real sector will be about 43.9 billion rubles, told journalists in a press-service of the Ministry of labor.

The Ministry of labor of Russia has made to the Cabinet a bill to raise in two years the minimum wage to the subsistence minimum of the working population. It is proposed to raise the minimum wage in two stages: from 1 January 2018 until 90% of the subsistence minimum of able-bodied population, and from 1 January 2019 up to 100%.

«Raising the minimum wage would need funds from the budgets of all levels. In the case of the bill the additional cost of raising the minimum wage, according to the Ministry of labor of Russia, will be in 2018: for employees of Federal government agencies 24.6 billion roubles, for employees of state agencies of constituent entities of the Russian Federation and municipal institutions – 55.7 billion rubles», — reported in Department.

The Ministry has specified that «the costs of employers in the real sector of the economy is projected at $ 43.9 billion in 2018».

According to authorities, at present, salaries at the level of the minimum wage paid about 900 thousand employees, of which 70% of workers employed in state and municipal institutions.

In total in 2016-2017, the minimum wage will increase by 25.7%. So, from July 1, 2016, the minimum wage was raised to 7,500 rubles, and from 1 July 2017 will be increased to 7800 rubles. According to preliminary estimates, by the end of 2017, the minimum wage will amount to 72.9% of the subsistence minimum of able-bodied population in the whole of Russia for 2017.
