The Muslim clergy of Kyrgyzstan is working hard to prevent manifestations of extremism and terrorism in the country, and the Orthodox community are grateful to them for it, said Sunday the Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia Kirill at the meeting with the head of the Spiritual administration of Muslims of Kyrgyzstan (SAMK), the Supreme mufti Maksatbek Toktomushev.

«From you as a mufti and the clergy, largely depends on society’s attitude to Orthodoxy, and that you kindly treat it is a very important factor for peace in the Kyrgyz people, and would like to thank you for that», — the Patriarch said at a meeting with the mufti in the governmental residence.

The Primate of the Russian Church noted with regret that now in different parts of the world there are «tragic accidents associated with the radical use of religion».

«The murder of innocent people: children, women, pilgrims, as it was now in Egypt — Orthodox pilgrims went to the monastery, and their machine guns shot, — that’s for God to do such things impossible. So, of course, it is very important to overcome these misinterpretations of religion. I know that here, in Kyrgyzstan, a lot is done to ensure that nobody could use religion to further their purposes,» — said the Patriarch.

In a meeting with Muslim religious leaders, he expressed «support and appreciation» noting that the Orthodox of Kyrgyzstan is ready to cooperate with them, «that the world was in the land of Kyrgyzstan».
