Universities-participants of the project 5-100 increased the number of foreign professors

Universities participating in the 5-100 project for increasing the competitiveness of leading Russian universities in 2013 increased the number of foreign professors, teachers and researchers in 4.5 times, reported the Deputy Minister of education and science of Russia Lyudmila Ogorodova.

The project of increase of competitiveness of leading Russian universities among leading research and educational centers 5-100 began in may 2013 in accordance with the provisions of the Decree No. 599 of the President of the Russian Federation «About measures on realization of state policy in education and science». Designed for 7 years, the project aims to contribute to building the research capacity of Russian universities to strengthen their competitive position in the global market of educational services.

«In the universities-participants of the project 5-100 during the implementation of the Project has been a significant increase in the number of foreign professors, teachers and researchers: in comparison with 2013, their share in the number of employees of the universities on average increased 4.5 times», — said Ogorodova RIA Novosti on the eve of the annual NAFSA and forum on international education.

According to her, since 2013, the winning universities attracted a total of more than 3.5 thousand young scientific and pedagogical workers having experience in research and educational areas at leading foreign and Russian universities and scientific organizations. However, only in 2016 Russian universities have managed to implement more than 1.2 thousand research projects jointly with foreign partners or prospective scientific organizations at the University.

In addition, according to Ogorodova, Ministry of education and science is actively working in the field of international student exchanges and academic mobility, in particular with universities in the USA. So, in 2016 in Russia was attended by representatives of Harvard University, UC Berkeley, Columbia University, Princeton University of southern California.

«If you take some Russian universities, for example, HSE, Kazan Federal University, MEPhI, MISIS, MIPT and St. Petersburg there is an active exchange with nearly 200 U.S. universities,» — said the Deputy Minister.
