German Chancellor Angela Merkel is a deeply convinced supporter of the transatlantic partnership, that is why, from her point of view, it is important to «honestly discuss the arisen disagreements,» he said at a briefing on Monday, government spokesman of Germany Steffen Seibert.

«Spoke deeply convinced and experienced supporter of the transatlantic partnership, however, because the transatlantic relationship for the Chancellor is so important, right, from her point of view, to honestly discuss the differences that were reported in recent days,» said Seibert.

According to him, «the Chancellor yesterday for the first time declared that Europe must take control of their own destiny», Merkel «has long convinced, and have long talks about it publicly.» We are talking about what «Europeans can and should do more to work on… strengths, develop new strengths», and this applies both to the «trade potential» and «hard work in the field of security and defense,» said Seibert.

«Right to speak publicly about differences, and previous meetings have indicated the existence of a number of such differences,» — said the representative of the Cabinet of Germany.

Earlier, German Chancellor Angela Merkel said that Europe can no longer rely on others and should take their destiny in their own hands. While Merkel stressed that the United States and Britain should remain a friendly relationship, however, particular importance is attached to good relations with the new President of France Emmanuel Macron.

Earlier, Merkel took part in the G7 summit in Italy and a meeting of leaders of NATO countries in Brussels. The statement of the Chancellor about more independence for Europe in German media, particularly the tabloid BILD, is associated with the outcome of the talks at these venues with the new American administration led by Donald trump, and the upcoming Brexit.
