The actions of the President of the United States Donald trump’s «weakened» West, his «short-sighted» policy is detrimental to the interests of the EU, said the foreign Minister of Germany, Sigmar Gabriel.

«Anyone who accelerates climatic changes, weakening environmental protection, who sells more weapons in conflict zones, and who do not want politically to resolve religious conflicts, endangered the peace of Europe», — quotes Agency France Presse words of Gabriel.

«Short-sighted policy of the American government against the interests of the EU,» said Gabriel, adding that «the West has become less, at least, he became weaker.»

Earlier, German Chancellor Angela Merkel said that Europe can no longer rely on others and should take their destiny in their own hands. While Merkel stressed that the United States and Britain should remain a friendly relationship, however, particular importance is attached to good relations with the new President of France Emmanuel Macron.

Earlier, Merkel took part in the G7 summit in Italy and a meeting of leaders of NATO countries in Brussels. The statement of the Chancellor about more independence for Europe in German media, particularly the tabloid BILD, is associated with the outcome of the talks at these venues with the new American administration led by Donald trump, and the upcoming Brexit.
