Famous ex-hockey player Sandis Ozolins was appointed the head coach of Riga «Dinamo», the official website of the Latvian hockey club.

This decision was taken at a meeting of the Board of Directors of the club on Monday.

Ozolins, who in August will be 45 years old, finished his playing career in may 2014. At the end of October last year, he joined the coaching staff «Dynamo», where he started his playing career, and played from 2009 to 2014 (with a break for one season).

Ozolins played in the NHL from 1992 to 2008, winning one Stanley Cup (with Colorado in the season 1995/96) and seven times played in the all-star game League. On their third Olympic games in Sochi in 2014 Ozolins was the captain of the national team of Latvia on hockey and flag bearer of the national team at the opening ceremony.

«Dynamo» took the last place in the Western conference (the next to last in the summary table of the League), NHL for the regular season-2016/17. Last season the club was headed by Normunds Sejejs.
