Moscow expects from Brussels concrete assurances for the second leg of the project of the gas pipeline «Turkish stream», not to repeat the sad experience of the «South stream», said Tuesday the Deputy foreign Minister Alexei Meshkov.

«We can not disturb the attempts of some EU institutions to derail energy projects in Europe with Russian participation, it is first and foremost about the project «Nord stream-2». Confusion on the part of the European Commission in respect of the second string of the gas pipeline «Turkish stream», which will target consumers in South and South-Eastern Europe. Not to repeat the sad experience of the «South stream»…, we expect from Brussels concrete guarantees for the implementation of this project,» — said Meshkov.

«Gazprom» has started construction of the offshore section of the gas pipeline «Turkish stream» may 7. This is a new export gas pipeline from Russia to Turkey through the Black sea. The first string of the gas pipeline is designed to supply gas to Turkish consumers, the other for the gas supply countries in southern and South-Eastern Europe. The capacity of the first and second strings of the «Turkish stream» will be at 15,75 billion cubic meters each. Construction is scheduled for completion by the end of 2019.

Russia in December 2014 due to the unconstructive position of the EU announced the termination of work on the «South stream», which was held on the territory of Bulgaria, Serbia, Hungary, in favor of a new pipeline to Turkey («Turkish»).
