The state Hermitage Museum will provide more than 200 exhibits, many of which have never been seen outside of Russia, for the Grand exhibition «the Scythians: warriors of ancient Siberia» in the British Museum.

«We will focus on the mysterious civilization that left a no written evidence. The exhibition is made possible thanks to the fact that the State Hermitage has agreed to provide us with more than 200 objects. This is another example of long-standing close cooperation of our two great museums and the first large exhibition devoted to the Scythian culture,» — said Tuesday at the presentation of the exhibition British Museum Director Hartwig Fischer.

In turn, Russian Ambassador in London Alexander Yakovenko has expressed admiration for the way museums in the UK issue of the exhibition.

He expressed the hope that the exhibition will make an important contribution to closer cultural relations between Russia and great Britain, as the exhibition «the Astronauts» dedicated to the development of Russian space and the exchange of exhibitions between the Tretyakov and the London Portrait galleries.

«Exhibition about the Scythians will be unique, some items have never left Russia. We are very pleased to bring them to London, a truly global cultural centre, and hope that the exhibition will be of interest to Britons and tourists» — said Yakovenko.

According to the curator of the exhibition the aesthetics of the film Simpson, she’ll tell you about all the main aspects of life of the Scythian tribes living on the vast territory stretching from the South of modern Russia, the Northern part of the Black sea to China.

«Despite the fact that we have no written documents, a large number of artifacts perfectly preserved thanks to the cold climate. They tell us about the Scythians, about their lifestyle, feeding habits, the tattoos that decorated their bodies, both men and women, on the funeral rituals. The Scythians were great warriors, skilled horsemen, a great craftsmen and jewelers,» said Simpson.

«We are investigating the influence of Scythian culture of other civilizations: for example, the ancient Greeks and the Persians taught the Scythians to drink wine,» — said the curator of the exhibition.

The exposition the story of the cultures, as the successor of the Scythian.

«In addition to the State Hermitage Museum, with whom we organize the exhibition, the exhibition will include unique objects, courtesy of the National Museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Osmolovskii Museum of art and archaeology and the Royal collection of works of art,» said Simpson.

The exhibition «the Scythians: warriors of ancient Siberia» opens 14 September and runs until 14 January 2018.
