Brazilian construction company Odebrecht paid $ 3.7 million bogus Mexican company related to the administration of the former Governor of the state of Veracruz in Mexico, Javier Duarte, according to the portal Contra la corrupcion.

«Money was sent from Mexico Blunderbuss Company, established in 2008 in the city of Poza Rica de Hidalgo Veracruz, which has no own premises and visible commercial operation», — is spoken in the report of the organization «Mexicans against corruption and impunity».

It is reported that the company had a network of front men associated with the government of Veracruz. Transfers of funds were committed in the period between August 2010 and February 2011.

In mid-October 2016 Duarte, accused in the corruption cases, filed a petition for temporary suspension from office for the conduct of the investigation against him and the lifting of immunity. After that he disappeared and still was on the run. April 16, 2017, it was reported that the Prosecutor General’s office of Mexico announced the arrest of Duarte.

In the six years of his tenure as head of state, Duarte was criticized for alleged corruption in the ranks of his administration, and for the unsolved cases of high-profile murders in the region.

Earlier it was reported that the authorities of several countries in Latin America received millions in bribes from Odebrecht. According to us court, Odebrecht paid to foreign politicians and representatives of the authorities, a total of 439 million dollars from 2001 to 2016. Among the recipients of bribes from construction companies for lucrative contracts included officials of Argentina, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Guatemala, Mexico, Panama and Peru, the maximum amount was received by the officials in Venezuela — 98 million dollars.
