The President of Russia Vladimir Putin stated that when his predecessor Boris Yeltsin for the first time told him that he wants to appoint his Prime Minister and would like to then he ran for President, at first refused, as he feared for their children.

«But when I Yeltsin proposed the first time, I refused. He invited me into his office, said he wanted to appoint a Prime Minister and would like to then I ran for President. I said that is a very big responsibility, it should change my life, and I’m not sure I’m ready for it», — Putin said in an interview with the Director Oliver stone in the film shown on television channel Showtime.

According to him, it’s one thing to be an officer, even of high rank: «you can live the life of ordinary people – to visit, to go to the cinema, theatre free, chat with friends and not carry a personal responsibility for everything that happens in the country, for the fate of millions of people.»

«And to take responsibility in that situation for Russia – it is a very difficult job. And frankly, I didn’t know then what the final plans for me for President Yeltsin, and I did not know how much more I can do because at any moment the President could say: «You are free», — said Putin.

The President admitted that he was thinking only about one thing – «where to hide the children.» «Imagine that I would be released from his post, – there is no protection, nothing, and what to do, how to live, how to ensure the safety of the family?» he said.

Putin said that he had left home and would come home late, so the kids have seen enough. «I don’t get up at four in the morning. I went at twelve, the hour of half past one and got up at seven o’clock. I always slept 6-7 hours,» — said the Russian leader.
