Negative attitude in Russia towards theology caused both aggressive antireligious propaganda in the Soviet years, and the fact that the theologians are not always in step with the times, said Wednesday at a conference in Moscow the head of the Higher attestation Commission (HAC), Vladimir Filippov.

«Today, the attitude in society, especially in our Russian, to theological education is based on many myths and outdated stereotypes,» said Filippov.

These stereotypes, in his opinion, partly due to «ideological blinders caused by aggressive anti-religious propaganda» in the USSR and Eastern Europe.

«And partly the fact that the teachers of theology do not always take into account the modern realities of society and do not seek to overcome outdated stereotypes in this area of discussion», — said the head of the WAC.

The first Russian dissertation on the theology have defended in Moscow, the author — Archpriest Paul Hondzinsky. Theology recognized as an academic discipline decision of the HAC in 2015. In 2016, made possible the protection of works on the subject, when was the dissertation and expert advice.
