Senator, Chairman of the Union of women of Russia Ekaterina Lakhova suggested that the state create an Institute to promote women in power.

«It is time that we allocated Institute which will be engaged in interagency analysis in the promotion of women to decision making level. We are still imperfect… we can’t always collect the full amount of data on the situation in what is today the woman,» Lakhova said, in an interview with RIA Novosti.

The Senator noted that the women’s Union of Russia has a resource center. «But in order to Institute work, and was some kind of order, this should the government think,» added Lakhova.

According to her, currently, the concrete proposals that the Institute is not yet formulated.

«But there is a national strategy to protect the interests of women, and if it is, then I think it’s problematic to raise questions, formulate them and to bring to the attention,» said Lakhova.

In March, Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev signed the national strategy for women. The document suggests the development for the 2017-2018 measures for the advancement of women in political, economic, social and cultural spheres, and starting with 2019 implementation. The strategy will identify the tools that will ensure the effectiveness of the involvement of women in the economy and to increase their representation at different levels of decision-making.

Among other tasks, overcoming gender stereotypes, reducing violence against women, the problem of combining female professional and family responsibilities, differences in salaries of women and men.
