The European Commission (EC) opened an antitrust investigation against the American manufacturer of sportswear Nike, Universal Studios, and owner of the brand Hello Kitty — Sanrio, said the EC.

The regulator believes that the company could illegally restrict distributors of goods in cross-border sales of goods, as well as in Internet sales within the single market of the European Union. «We’re investigating, not deprived if the practice of licensing and distribution (goods — ed.)… consumers access to a wider choice and better offers (part — ed) the single market» — presented in the release are the words of the European Commissioner for competition, Margrethe Vestager.

The investigation concerns goods, such as clothing, shoes, mobile phone accessories, bags and toys, which are deposited on the image or text. The manufacturer can put the image or text if you have signed a license agreement with the owner of intellectual property rights.

Nike is the owner of the goods with symbolics of football club «Barcelona», Sanrio brand Hello Kitty, and Universal Studios movies «Minions» and «Despicable me», explained in a release.
