Palestine highly appreciates Moscow’s decision not to move its Embassy in Israel from tel Aviv to Jerusalem until a final decision on the status of the city between Israelis and Palestinians, said in an interview to RIA news the Palestinian Ambassador to Russia Abdul Hafez Nofal.

The unresolved status of the city and the sensitivity of this issue for relations with the Arab-Muslim world forced the US President Donald trump to act contrary to his campaign promises and a week ago to postpone for at least six months of relocation of the Embassy, which is now in tel Aviv. Minister for Jerusalem Affairs and national heritage of Israel ze’ev Elkin on June 8 urged Russia to take advantage of the delay of the US and become the first country in the world, which will move its Embassy to Jerusalem.

In the Department of information and press of the Russian foreign Ministry in response to this proposal recalled that, on 6 April, the Russian side made an official statement which reaffirmed the commitment of Moscow «two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.»

«We are grateful to the authorities and the Ministry of foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation for this decision. As far as we know, earlier the Russian foreign Ministry admitted the possibility that Jerusalem could become the capital of two States. We appreciate the position of the Russian Federation that the Russian Embassy in tel Aviv will remain there until, until will not be implemented, the decision on the establishment of a Palestinian state within the 1967 borders with its capital in East Jerusalem,» said Nofal.

As the Ambassador noted, the issue of moving the Russian Embassy in Jerusalem is a secondary character. «First of all, Israel needs to recognize Palestine within the 1967 borders with its capital in East Jerusalem. We, the Palestinians often say that Jerusalem should be a city open to all: Christians, Muslims, Jews – a city open political and economic relations. However, it is possible after Israel recognizes the Palestinian right to self — determination,» the diplomat said.

«After that – no problems», — said Ambassador of the Arab country.
