The Commissioner for human rights in the Russian Federation Tatiana Moskalkova made for expansion in Russia legal framework to combat domestic violence.

Thursday launched a two-day inter-regional conference «Protection of children in difficult life situations. Prevention of family problems» in which the Ombudsman participates.

«We want to consider legal regulation, counteracting violence in the family. Law, private standards (is), but today, unfortunately, there is no sufficient legal base in order to… prevent, resist,» — said Moskalkova in a speech at the conference.

The Ombudsman expressed regret that there is no way to maintain «those public organizations which organize some centres for protection from violence.»

In addition, the Ombudsman listed the key problems in the sphere of protection of children’s rights. «Equality of children today families generates inequality and inequality of children: unequal access to education, unequal access to recreation, unequal access to leisure,» — said Moskalkova reporters on Thursday, responding to a question about the three most urgent problems for Russia in the sphere of protection of children’s rights.

«Equal access to education, today the exam and the paid education system that is expanding more and more cuts to children not having the ability to pay for expensive education,» she said.

Moskalkova also added that the conference will discuss the mechanisms that could prevent the spread of free education.
