The staff of the faculty of psychology of Moscow state University named after M. V. Lomonosov studied the behavior and social skills in people with disorders of the corpus callosum — a plexus of nerve fibers that connect the right and left hemispheres of the brain. The results of their work, scientists reported at the international conference 25th European Congress of Psychiatry.Now of particular interest to neuropsychologists is dependence of human behavior on the quality of interhemispheric interaction, which is provided primarily by the corpus callosum. Parents of children with agenesis (congenital underdevelopment) of the body was reported about the poor social skills of their children, about the emotional immaturity and poor emotional communication, lack of social competence, the shortcomings of planning. It is noticeable to affect the daily lives of children. In the end, this pathology usually becomes a cause of social and emotional isolation, leading to benenati of self-understanding. The authors showed that such patients have reduced levels of social understanding, interpretation of Proverbs and ambiguous stimuli, social logic and sense of self. In addition, it was observed behavioural abnormalities or even psychopathology.

«In its pilot experiment, we tried to assess an important component of social communication and behaviour in General, individuals with pathology of the corpus callosum — the ability to evaluate the emotional state of another person», — told Mariya Kovyazina, the author of the work, the doctor of psychological Sciences, associate Professor of neuro — and pathopsychology, faculty of psychology of Moscow state University named after M. V. Lomonosov.

In the study, researchers used a computer technique for the evaluation of the ability to emotion recognition in face image. Respondents were shown 14 images of facial expressions, three of which were grimaces. The one depicted in emotions correspond to basic emotions: joy, distress, disgust, interest, shame, contempt, fear, and the faces did not carry the emotional load. After the presentation of each image, the subject was supposed to fill in the form in which it was necessary to evaluate the image for 24 adjective-characteristics, each of which was attached to the «weight» from 1 to 6. In addition, in the course of work the authors have evaluated the emotional intelligence of the interlocutor and used a video to assess the emotional state of another person.

Thus, it can be assumed that patients with congenital disorders of the corpus callosum do not accumulate experience in the process of communication, and patients with acquired pathology is not can use as hampered its recovery.
«Our study demonstrated problems with understanding emotions in patients with impaired megalochary interaction. We need a more detailed syndrome analysis of all the observed peculiarities of the psyche in pathology of the corpus callosum. Poverty interhemispheric integration is too General a mechanism to explain the identified symptoms. The combination of these data clearly shows that difficulties in social skills, emotional communication deficit in the understanding of communicative intentions of another, humor, metaphors, sarcasm can be typical not only for patients with lesions of the frontal departments and right hemispheres of the brain, but also for patients with different pathologies of the corpus callosum, which requires further experimental validation,» concluded Maria Kovyazina.
