A driving licence issued in Belarus, from 1 July will be allowed in Russia, despite the law restricting driving on the basis of foreign national or international driving permits, said Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev.

Meeting of the Council of Ministers of the Union state takes place on Friday in St. Petersburg. The agenda of the meeting on 19 questions relating to cooperation in trade-economic, scientific and technological, migration and other areas.

«There was a number of other decisions, including driving licences and permissions to use foreign driving license, issued by the Republic of Belarus, on the territory of our country (Russia) after July 1 of the current year. This is also an important event for those involved in transportation. This allows us to solve other transport problems», — Medvedev said following the meeting.

In Russia since June 1 came into force a law that does not allow the management of vehicles on the basis of foreign national or international driving licenses while carrying out entrepreneurial and employment activities directly related to the management of vehicles.

The Treaty establishing the Union state of 1999 provides for a special status for citizens of Belarus in Russia. In particular, the citizens of Belarus may carry out entrepreneurial and employment activities directly connected with management of vehicles, without obtaining a Russian driver’s license.
