Russia intends to develop the domestic aviation industry and plans to oust foreign aircraft manufacturers in the domestic market, but is not intended to completely replace them, said the transport Minister Maxim Sokolov, in his lecture at the University of Crete.

On Crete, the Minister participated in a meeting of co-chairmen of the Russian-Greek joint Commission on economic, industrial and scientific-technical cooperation.

To the question about how quickly the Russian aviation industry is ready to displace with the domestic market of Boeing and Airbus and replace them with machines of domestic production, Sokolov said that Russia is a goal we is not intended, noting that in the US and Europe are also foreign planes.

«In the end of XX century in the world every fifth aircraft was of Soviet manufacture. Now the situation has changed – we still kept a good position in the transport aircraft industry. Mi-8 is the best helicopter for transport. With regard to civil aviation, in our asset while we can only speak about one model is the Sukhoi Superjet 100», — said Sokolov.

He added that the plane is already heavily used, and not only in Russia, but foreign airlines.

According to him, MS-21 too early to say. «It hasn’t gone (to the market). The prototype has only recently made its second flight,» — said Sokolov.

«But the plans of our largest European airline Aeroflot until 2023 to buy one hundred aircraft MS-21», — said the Minister.

He is convinced that the sidelining of foreign aircraft manufacturers in the domestic market possible, including using financial levers.

«As for the international market, there will be tough to compete in price, quality, environmental friendliness, energy efficiency. What percentage take – time will tell. But willing to give very good terms to its friends, including the Hellenic Republic», — said Sokolov.
