At least one sailor with a merchant vessel collided with a destroyer will be evacuated by helicopter by the Japanese coast guard, reported the press service of the US Navy.

«The US Navy working on a medical evacuation helicopter single man» — said the press service.

To help in the area of the incident sent the destroyer USS Dewey and two naval tugs. The aircraft of the Navy are on alert, the press service.

Earlier, the Pentagon announced that the U.S. Navy destroyer USS Fitzgerald collided with a merchant vessel ACX Crystal, marching under the flag of Philippines. The incident occurred southwest of the Japanese city of Yokosuka at 02.30 local time.

As the press service of the Navy, the collision occurred at speeds of 56 knots. The U.S. Navy turned to the coast guard of Japan for help.
