Pope Francis took on Saturday of German Chancellor Angela Merkel, this meeting was the sixth.

During the 40-minute audience in the Apostolic Palace of the Vatican, the parties discussed the climate and the implementation of the Paris agreements, the need for a major effort of the EU to help the African continent.

According to Merkel, they also touched upon the forthcoming summit of «twenty» in Hamburg, according to Italian media.

«During the warm debate was marked by good and fruitful relations between the Holy see and Germany. They discussed issues of mutual interest with a focus on the G20 meeting in Hamburg. The parties agreed on the need to pay special attention to the responsibility of the world community in the fight against poverty and hunger, the global threat of terrorism and climate change,» reports the press service of the Holy see.

It is noted that Pope Francis Merkel has expressed condolences in connection with death of ex-German Chancellor Helmut Kohl.

At the end of the meeting, the Chancellor gave the Pope a set of Argentine sweets and a collection of CDs with classical music, particularly Beethoven.

The Pope in return handed her a small bronze statue with the symbol of peace — an olive branch and three major document promulgated during the present pontificate. We are talking about translated into German papal Encyclical Laudato sii, dedicated to environmental issues, the document Evangelii gaudium about the role of the gospel and the exhortation Amoris laetitia on the family.
