The Russian Embassy in Portugal has no information about killed or injured citizens in the devastating forest fire, the information is checked, told RIA Novosti press-Secretary of Embassy Alexander Bryantsev.

«At the moment we have no information on casualties Russian citizens. We are in constant contact with the Portuguese authorities to clarify this issue,» he said.

Embassy staff recalled that forest fires regularly rage in Portugal in the summer. «The problem of forest fires in Portugal have a regular character last year was also large forest fires. But it is the largest in terms of victims of a forest fire,» — said Bryantsev.

The number of victims of a powerful forest fire in Portugal has reached 57 people, injured 59, according to Portuguese newspaper Publico, citing official data. About 30 people, according to preliminary data, was killed when trying to leave the disaster area by car.

The fire, which still fails to take control, raging in the municipality of Pedrogao Grande (Leiria district, a historical region of Estremadura). Most likely, the fire broke out because of the heat, which was established on the Iberian Peninsula. The thermometer in there approach and even exceed 40 degrees. The rapid spread of fire contribute to strong gusts of wind.
