A monument to the reunification of the Russian Orthodox Church (ROC) and the Russian Orthodox Church abroad (ROCOR) will open on Sunday in Moscow, a monument will consecrate the Patriarch.

«Monument «Reunion» will be opened in Moscow in a historic place – at the Cathedral of Christ the Savior, where he was signed on 17 may 2007 the Act of canonical communion between the Russian Orthodox Church abroad and the Russian Orthodox Church in the Fatherland. In bronze are sealed by Patriarch Alexy II and Metropolitan Laurus, standing on the broken globe, and holding in his hand the Cathedral of Christ the Savior and signed active», — told RIA Novosti in the press service of the Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia.

Similar monuments have been opened in 2015 in Kursk region on the territory of the monastery «Korennaya Pustyn» in the diocesan center of the Eastern American diocese of ROCOR in the Holy Alexander Nevsky Cathedral of the city of Howell, new Jersey.

The ROCA appeared in 1920-ies and joined emigrated or found themselves in exile after the revolution of 1917 and the civil war in Russia the part of the clergy. May 17, 2007 Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia Alexy II and the first Hierarch of ROCOR Metropolitan Laurus signed in the Russian capital the Act of canonical communion, which established that «the Russian Orthodox Church outside of Russia… remains an inherent self-governing part of the local Russian Orthodox Church.»
