. The head of the German oil company Wintershall Mario Mehren refused to accept the argument of the opponents of the project «Northern stream — 2», consider that he may leave Ukraine without the income from the transit of Russian gas. He said this in comments to Der Spiegel.

«It’s not our goal as a company is to consolidate budget of Ukraine», — he stressed.

Meren also pointed out the poor condition of the Ukrainian gas transportation system. According to him, for decades, European consumers paid billions for transit of gas through Ukraine, but Kiev the money spent «on anything, not on maintenance of pipelines».

Wintershall expects to realize the project «Northern stream — 2», regardless of the resistance. «There is only one provider that can meet the growing demand in Europe — Russia», — said Meren.

The project «Northern stream — 2» involves the construction of two pipelines from the coast of Russia through the Baltic sea to Germany. The total capacity will be 55 billion cubic meters of gas per year. For the construction and operation of the pipeline created by the company 2 the Nord Stream AG, which in April signed an agreement with Shell, OMV, Engie, Uniper and Wintershall on the financing of the project. In June, the partners enrolled in the company’s accounts more than a billion euros.
