The weather did not allow to make its first Charter flight from Japan to the southern Kuril Islands, announced Monday the organizers of the trip of former Japanese residents of the Islands in the town Nakashibetsu on the island of Hokkaido.

The flight was originally scheduled for 18 June, was postponed several times due to fog on Kunashir and, in the end, was cancelled.

As stated to journalists the Deputy Minister of foreign Affairs of Japan, Nobuo Kishi, «the weather conditions have not changed, and there was no other choice but to cancel the trip». According to him, the government of Japan will make efforts to arrange a new visit to the South Kuril Islands in the course of this year.

From 17 June at the airport was turboprop aircraft far Eastern airline «Aurora» for the first time to deliver flight 70 former residents of the South Kuril Islands and their carers to visit the graves of their ancestors under the visa-free exchange between the two countries. They planned to visit the Islands of Kunashir and Shikotan.

To accompany them on the trip were officials, including Nobuo Kishi.

So far for these trips were used Maritime transport, but in April of this year during the visit of Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to Moscow, an agreement was reached on granting the former residents of the South Kuril Islands to visit them by plane.
