Fog on the Kuril island of Kunashir, where should go first flight from Japan, could dissipate on 21 June when the island will change the direction of the wind, told RIA Novosti on Monday the representative of the Sakhalin hydrometeorological.

«Today, on Kunashir – thick fog and a southwest wind speed 7-12 m / sec at a temperature of from 13 to 18 degrees above zero. Tomorrow (June 20) – the picture is the same. In June in the island of fog is a frequent visitor, so expect that it will dissipate, only when the change of wind. On 21 June the wind changes to South-East, and there’s hope that fog will not» — said the Agency interlocutor.

At the airport Kunashir island Mendeleyevo information confirmed, there is a dense fog.

«From six in the morning there is a dense dark fog, without a gap, most likely, already today it is clear, and the Outlook is not very good,» said airport Director Sergei Bondarev.

The flight was originally scheduled for 08.30 am (02.30 GMT) on 18 June, but due to heavy fog in the area of Mendeleyevo airport on Kunashir flight was rescheduled for the same time Monday. On Monday, organizers announced that the flight is delayed again for some time.

Part of the participants / former residents of the South Kuril Islands left the airport Nakashibetsu and went back to the hotel.

From 17 June the airport is turboprop aircraft far Eastern airline «Aurora» for the first time to deliver flight 70 former residents of the South Kuril Islands and their carers to visit the graves of their ancestors under the visa-free exchange between the two countries. They planned to visit the Islands of Kunashir and Shikotan.

The transfer of Japan of Islands of Kunashir, Iturup, Shikotan and Habomai Tokyo is put forward as conditions for the conclusion with Russia the peace Treaty. The position of Moscow consists that southern Kuriles became part of the Soviet Union at the end of the Second world war and the Russian sovereignty over them has the appropriate international legal registration and not be questioned.
