Russian President Vladimir Putin appointed Alexei Erchov Ambassador of Russia in Turkey, a decree published on the official Internet portal of legal information.

«To appoint Erchova Alexey Vladimirovich, Ambassador extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Turkey», — stated in the text of the decree.

Erchov holds the position of Director of the Department of the situational crisis center of the foreign Ministry, a few years earlier, he was the Consul General of Russia in Istanbul.

Russian Ambassador to Turkey Andrey Karlov was killed December 19, 2016 in Ankara for the opening of the exhibition. The offender fired several shots in the back of the Ambassador, the wounds proved fatal. As a result of police operations the assailant was killed. Russia’s investigative Committee opened a criminal case under article «an act of international terrorism that resulted in the killing of a man.»
