The world food programme (WFP) warns of the possibility of the outbreak of famine in Somalia, if in the near future will not be provided funding for WFP programmes in the amount of $ 300 million, told reporters the head of programmes for WFP Somalia Laurent Booker.

«A famine is coming. Until he announced. The last months we’ve managed to avoid it, but he approaches, and if the situation does not change, there will be hunger», he said.

According to him, at the moment, WFP has recorded 618 deaths from diseases caused by malnutrition, in particular cholera.

Booker added that the WFP for Somalia is funded at 40%. Just for the next six months, you must obtain another $ 300 million. This will help to assist about 2.5 million people.

Currently, WFP is actively working to prevent hunger in four countries: Somalia, Yemen, South Sudan and Nigeria. On the organization’s programs in these areas requires 1 billion dollars.
