The opening ceremony of the bronze statue of Peter the Great will be held on Wednesday at St. Peter’s square in the Belgian Liege, told RIA Novosti at the Russian Embassy in Belgium.

The installation of the monument dedicated to the 300th anniversary of the visit to the first Russian Emperor, the Belgian lands in 1717.

In the opening ceremony of the monument will be attended by Russian Ambassador to Belgium Alexander Tokovinin, the Governor of the province of liège, Herve Jamar, members of the public and the business community. On the same day planned a series of celebrations in the resort town of Spa.

By words a press-attache of the Russian Embassy in Belgium Violetta Churakova, a joint initiative of the regional authorities and the Belgian Fund of Peter the Great (Fondation Pierre le Grand) is implemented with the assistance of the Russian Embassy, Rossotrudnichestvo, «Gazprom», «LUKOIL» and other organizations.

During the stay in the Belgian land Peter and I also visited Brussels and Antwerp. The first monument to the Russian monarch in Belgium was established in 1998 in Antwerp in the framework of the festival «Days of Peter the Great». In Brussels, in the Park next to the Royal Palace, Peter I have a small bust, donated in 1856 by Prince Demidov.
