Premiere multi-genre performance of «Crystal Palace», created by joint efforts of Russian and Maltese artists will take place on 21 July in the capital of Malta, Valletta and will be held in the framework of festive events dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Russia and Malta.

The project was initiated and is implementing the European Foundation for culture. Directed by the Director Ekaterina Mironova attended the world ballet star Ivan Vasiliev, principal dancer of the Bolshoi theatre Maria Allash, ballet soloist Maria Vinogradova, a soloist of the Opera of the Bolshoi theater Anna Aglatova, a theater and film actress Maria Golubkina. Also involved the Malta Philharmonic orchestra under the baton of Bolshoi theater Pavel Klinichev, children’s choir, Stagecoach Malta students of the Malta school of ballet.

«Malta is a collection of Mediterranean culture, and in Russia – a multinational state – represented by the cultures of different ethnic groups. We believe that culture is the most effective tool in fostering a better understanding of the peoples of Russia and Malta. New great Russian-Maltese project «Crystal Palace» dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between our countries, and we fully support this wonderful cultural event,» — said at a press conference on Wednesday, the Ambassador of Malta in Russia Carmel Brincat.

He stressed that the Embassy of Malta strongly supports cultural events of Russia and Malta, and said that Russia opens new representative office of the Republic, as well as new consulates in Nizhny Novgorod, Irkutsk, Rostov.

A play about love

Maria Vinogradova, the leading soloist of the Bolshoi ballet, said that the theme of the show was love. Vinogradov speaks with her husband, the Prime Minister of the Mikhailovsky theatre Ivan Vasiliev.

«We with Ivan playing lovers. It’s an extraordinary multimedia new play, where twisted so many different types of art created by stunning scenery, beautiful and quite complex, we have to learn and dance,» she explained.

According to the ballerina, «it is nice when the play is staged specially for you.»

«The main character of the play – the Russian Empress Anna Ioannovna. Interestingly, our daughter is almost a year now, name is Anna, and the patronymic Ivanovna. I hope that we will succeed and the play will please the audience», — said Vinogradov.

Departure on a white horse

Empress will play the movie and theatre actress Maria Golubkina, who said that long dreamed of performing in the ballet and then, finally, her dream came true.

«In the play Anna Ivanovna will go on a white horse, and I am well aware it is the art of a rider,» added Golubkina.

The play is staged in the tradition of Russian court theatre of the XVIII century with elements of modern drama. Theatrical craftsmen make original decorations and costumes in the Baroque style, recreating on stage the atmosphere of the era. The action takes place in 1740 at the court of Anna Ioannovna. In the capital are preparing a luxurious celebration, one of them the Empress learns of the love court jester and crackers and ordered to marry them. At her command erected an ice Crystal Palace where the lovers have to spend the night after the wedding.

The project is the European Fund of support of culture and the Mediterranean conference centre with the support of the foreign economic Department of the Moscow government, the Ministry of culture of the Republic of Malta, the Embassy of the Russian Federation, the Russian centre of science and culture in Malta, Malta-Russian Foundation of friendship and the Malta Philharmonic orchestra.
