Federal Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel at the G20 summit to personally say to Donald Trump that her country against new anti-Russian US sanctions, said the candidate in chancellors from the SPD party, the former head of the European Parliament Martin Schulz. His words are quoted by the Spiegel.

«We have seen that the US has chosen a dangerous course of energy policy, aimed primarily against Germany,» he said.

According to him, the foreign Minister of Germany, Sigmar Gabriel made clear, as Berlin refers to the sanctions and Merkel, it were supported. «I hope at the G20 summit, she will use the opportunity to convey to Mr. trump an appropriate message», — he stressed.

Schultz added that the energy security of Germany depends on constructive cooperation with Russia. «We have every right to defend and protect the industrial interests of Germany and Europe,» he said.

The U.S. Senate last week approved a bill on new sanctions against Russia and Iran. In it, among other things, discusses measures that can be applied to those who contribute to the development of Russian oil and gas pipelines. At the moment, several European companies to invest in the construction of the pipeline «Nord stream-2.»

Foreign Minister of Germany Sigmar Gabriel and the Austrian Chancellor Christian Kern in a joint statement, opposed the restrictive measures. They noted that the US is not even trying to hide that pursue their own energy interests.

The official representative of the German government Steffen Seibert reiterated that Merkel shares this view.
