Kaliningrad authorities held a working meeting on the development of measures to prevent crimes related to the killing of endangered marine mammals, particularly seals, special attention was paid to the problem of disposal of dead animals, reported the press service of the regional government.

The reason for the meeting were the numerous complaints to the office of Rosprirodnadzor in the Kaliningrad region about the discovery of dead seals on the coast of the Baltic sea, including on the beaches. Participation the meeting was attended head of the coastal municipalities, representatives of the regional Ministry of nature and environment, departments of Rosprirodnadzor and Rosselkhoznadzor, the national Park of Curonian spit and Kaliningrad zoo.

«According to the information of Rosprirodnadzor in the Kaliningrad region, on the bodies of the dead seals are broken, chipped, gunshot wounds indicating a violent death. At this point in the national Park «Kurshskaya Kosa» on the beach there are three bodies of animals», — stated in the message.

It is noted that the region for the first time faced with such a problem. Her decision is not spelled out in the environmental legislation. However, to take emergency measures for the disposal of the bodies of seals solved because of the risk of occurrence of viral diseases.

«We have developed a procedure for how the municipality, together with the veterinary service of the region and representatives of Rosprirodnadzor will work in the event of such situations. Now it will happen quickly: within days the problem will be solved, the body will be disposed of,» — said acting Chairman of the regional government Alexander Shenderyuk-Zhidkov, the words quoted by the press service.
