Moscow international film festival (MIFF) will open in the Moscow theater «Russia» on Thursday, the Indian film «Bahubali. The end» directed by S. S. Rajamouli (Koduri Srisaila Sri Josh trank’s), reported the press service of the festival.

«Bahubali. The end» is the sequel to the historical adventure of the Indian epic about Prince Chibudu, who was saved from persecution, and brought by ordinary people. Reaching the peak of his powers, he learned about his origins. Now he wants to find out why the person who opened him the truth, when something killed him magnanimous and wise father-ruler», — stated in the message.

In addition to the opening film, the festival will feature other Indian paintings – «the Magic river», «Deadly turn», «Real friends», «Suicide», «Negative hero» in the framework of the program «Panorama of Indian cinema».

The festival will culminate on June 29 with the screening of new films by Sofia Coppola’s «Fatal temptation» (The Beguiled, USA) according to the famous novel of Thomas Kalinina. Coppola won the prize as best Director at the last Cannes film festival.

The competition

The competition program this year includes 13 films from China («Crested IBIS»), Denmark («Hell»), Spain («Selfie»), Argentina («Symphony for Ana»), Finland («Zvezdice»), Japan («April sleep length in three years»), Korea (the»Ordinary man»), Germany and Austria («Best of all possible worlds»), of India («dive»), Turkey («Yellow heat»)

Russia was represented by the painting «Carp frostbitten» by Vladimir Kott with Alisa Freundlich, Marina Neelova and Yevgeny Mironov in the lead roles, «Bag without a bottom» Rustam Khamdamov and «Buy me» Vadim Perelman, the acclaimed Director of the series «Infidelity».

The festival also will be a competition of short films and documentaries.

«The festival programme is diverse and varied, a set of different programs, different movies and different people. We strive to keep and to invite curators that make those programs that interest them,» — said at a press conference, program Director of MIFF, film critic Cyril Razlogov.

In the jury of the main competition included the Italian actress Ornella Muti, the Finnish Director jörn Johan Donner, Spanish Director and writer albert Serra, Iranian Director Reza Mirkarimi, Russian playwright Alexander Adabashyan, a member of the New German film Fund Film Board Brigitta Mantey.

The competition program

Among out-of-competition programs of the festival — a retrospective Andrei Konchalovsky’s «Ennobling truths», which includes seven restored films of the Director, a program dedicated to Korean cinema and Indian cinema, the rubric «Russian trace», «Spectrum», «Films», «Euphoria suburbs», «8 1/2 movies» and other programs.

The Russian program of the festival will show new hire and the films that have not yet reached the big screen, including «Big» Peter Todorovsky, «Dislike» by Andrei Zvyagintsev, «Myths about Moscow» Alexander Molochnikova, «Three sisters» Yury Grymov, «Rock» Ivan Shakhnazarov, «Cool tango» Paul Chukhrai and others.

Moscow international film festival was first held in 1935 and the jury was directed by Sergei Eisenstein. Since 1959, the festival has been held regularly. Over the past decade, the popularity of the festival and its impact on the world filmmaking process have grown significantly. The President of the festival — Director Nikita Mikhalkov.
