The bill on sanctions against Iran, previously approved by the U.S. Senate, which includes the anti-Russian sanctions, today has a very good chance to be accepted in the House of representatives, said the Deputy of the state Duma of the Russian Federation Georgy Charles.

«Our visit to our colleagues in the U.S. Congress gave the opportunity to communicate with them. Specifically, we spoke with (Congressman Don) young of Alaska (Congressman Dana) Rohrabacher from California. Exchange of views was based on the discussion of bilateral cooperation and prospects. But (we discussed) our issue with the bill that all of us are very alarming, he was also concerned and our colleagues,» — he told RIA Novosti on the sidelines of an Arctic forum.

«Today, to say that the House of representatives will vote definitely for or against, is premature. But if the vote was now, the bill would be passed by the House of representatives,» he added.

«They (the congressmen) can’t talk today for all of your fellow congressmen. Nevertheless, the atmosphere in which he found himself today do the congressmen, the atmosphere being generated by the media, making Russia an enemy, bears fruit. And, unfortunately, in Congress and the Senate, as experience shows, those who succumbed to this mood, a lot. This Russophobic hysteria, it is, unfortunately, overshadowing the realities of our good neighborly relations that have developed over the last 25 years,» says Charles.

The U.S. Senate on 15 June completed the approval procedure of the draft law providing for new sanctions against Russia. In particular, it is proposed to reduce the maximum term of market financing of Russian banks under sanctions, up to 14 days, of the companies subjected to the oil and gas sector — up to 30 days. The bill also includes the possibility of sanctions against persons who intend to invest more than $ 5 million a year or $ 1 million lump sum in the construction of Russian export pipelines or provide project services, to provide informational assistance.

If approved by the lower house of Congress, the document should go to the President for signature.
