An annual meeting of foreign Ministers (CFM) of the member countries of the Central European initiative (CEI) will be held on Thursday in Minsk, reported the press service of the Belarusian foreign Ministry.

This event is held under the presidency of Belarus in 2017 in the organization.

«The main topic for discussion during the Ministerial Council – the increasing role of the member countries of the CEI in promoting compatibility and complementarity of the various integration processes in a wider Europe, including the consolidation of efforts in combating new threats to stability in the region and strengthening pragmatic economic cooperation between different integration formats», — said the press service.

According to her, during the meeting of foreign Ministers of Central European initiative will also address the issue of the reform of the CEI in the light of new challenges and changes in the region of Central and South-Eastern Europe that have occurred over the last decade.

In 2017 Minsk for the first time, holding the CEI presidency, which is one of the oldest European subregional structures. «The Central European initiative was established in 1989 to prevent new dividing lines in Europe, which makes it especially sought after in the current situation in the region», — said the press service.

Today, the organization has 18 member countries: Austria, Albania, Belarus, Bulgaria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Hungary, Italy, Macedonia, Moldova, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Ukraine, Croatia, Montenegro, Czech Republic.-0-
