The U.S. Supreme court on Thursday upheld the sentence of former CIA officer Jeffrey Sterling, who was sentenced to 3.5 years in prison for the disclosure of classified information.

«The court of appeals for the fourth circuit ruled that there is no reason to revise the sentence,» — said in this connection, the Fox News channel.

Sterling was sentenced to prison in 2015. He was found guilty in the transfer of the journalist of the newspaper the New York Times James Risen classified information regarding Iran’s nuclear program.

The sterling pleaded not guilty. He suggested that the source of the leak was one of the staff of the U.S. Congress, which he gave to their concerns. Riesen, who also tried to bring to court as witness, said that will not disclose their sources of information.
