General Assembly of founders and Board of Trustees of the European University has accepted the resignation of the rector of the University Oleg Kharkhordin, according to the University.

«Today, June 23, the General Assembly of founders and Board of Trustees of the European University in Saint-Petersburg has accepted the resignation of the rector Oleg V. Kharkhordin, with effect from 1 July 2017. Oleg Kharkhordin has led the University since 2009, leading it as in a period of rapid development, and in the difficult moments of administrative problems in the relationship with local and Federal authorities,» — said in the message.

For the period of search for a new rector, his duties during the year, will perform Nikolai Vakhtin, the rector of the University in 2003-2009.

Kharkhordin will continue to cooperate with the University in the position of fundraising Advisor.

«The Chairman of the General meeting of shareholders and Board of Trustees Mikhail Borisovich Piotrovsky expressed confidence that the European University in St. Petersburg will remain on the leading roles in Russian and international higher education», — stated in the message.

European University in Saint Petersburg was established in 1994 and began its work in 1996 as a teaching fellowship in the Humanities and social Sciences (anthropology, history, art history, political science, sociology, Economics). The founders of the European University are, in particular, ex-Minister of Finance of the Russian Federation, head of the Council of the Center for strategic research (CSR), Deputy Chairman of the Economic Council under the President of the Russian Federation Alexey Kudrin and the Director of the State Hermitage Mikhail Piotrovsky.
