Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev congratulated Russian Muslims on Eid al-Fitr and highlighted the contribution of the Russian Muslim community to fight extremism and xenophobia, reported on the website of the Cabinet of Ministers on Sunday.

According to him, the Eid al-Adha is a symbol of rebirth and spiritual renewal, which teaches justice and mercy.

«Umma of Russia does much to preserve traditions and customs, and cooperation with the Islamic world. Special respect deserve its contribution to the fight against manifestations of extremism and xenophobia, efforts aimed at maintaining peace and accord in our multinational and multireligious country. Due to active outreach activities of the Ummah in different regions of our country open madrassas, Islamic universities and institutes, mosques are being built,» – said in a telegram addressed to the heads of spiritual administrations of Muslims of Russia.

Eid al-Fitr (Arabic. Eid al-Fitr) — the feast of breaking the fast, marks the end of fasting in the month of Ramadan. It is one of two great holidays in Islam. Is celebrated for three days.
