Japanese manufacturer of automobile airbags, Takata Corporation announced Monday on bankruptcy and the transfer of cases to the us company Key Safety Systems, said in a statement the company press release.

Takata in 2014 was in the center of a scandal amid reports that its airbags can spontaneously open up during the movement of the machine. Defects of the pillows caused at least 16 deaths, mainly in the USA. To fix faults around the world were recalled millions of cars sold.

For protection from creditors Takata, the debts which, according to the Agency Kyodo, exceeded $ 9 billion, filed in Tokyo district court. In the course of proceedings in the bankruptcy case, the Corporation will hold a reorganization with the financial support of Key Safety Systems, which is owned by Chinese Corporation Ningbo Joyson Electronic.

The contractor Takata Corporation, TK Holdings, the company, also filed for bankruptcy, reports the Japanese Agency Kyodo.

Takata was established in 1933 in Japan and in time became the largest supplier of components of systems of safety of cars. As previously reported, in January a US Federal court has filed charges against three top managers of the Takata Corporation to provide manufacturers false information on testing airbags.
