Sociologists have found out, how Russians feel about the idea of free sale of drugs

The vast majority of Russians (93%) are against the free sale of drugs, but one in ten respondents aged 18-34 years of age, 14% of residents of capital cities allow the legalization of recreational drugs, the survey showed the all-Russia centre of studying of public opinion (VTSIOM).

«Any of the substances listed as drugs that can not and should not do in a free market along with the tobacco or alcohol products convinced the vast majority of our fellow citizens (93%),» reads the study materials at the disposal of RIA Novosti.

Only 6% of Russians allow the legal implementation of so-called soft drugs, the survey showed. In this case, say the sociologists, some groups of respondents this proportion exceeds 10%. Among respondents aged 18-34 years allow the legalization of recreational drugs 12-13% among the residents of capital cities — 14%, and among the people in whose company there are drug addicts, this proportion is 12%.

Sociologists also found that about half of our compatriots (45%) describe drug addiction as a disease that should be treated. In 2014, with this opinion agree 31%. Also significantly decreased the number of those who consider drug addiction to «social diseases» (28% vs. 37% in 2014). The share of Russians who consider drug addicts are dangerous people who should be isolated from society, has decreased from 28% to 21%.

At the same time, more than three quarters of Russians (78%) approve of the idea of introducing criminal punishment for taking drugs. The researchers note that the proportion supporting such a measure to be high in all socio-demographic groups, including among those who are familiar with drug addicts. Exceptions were only the residents of Moscow and St. Petersburg, of whom such a measure possible believe 60%.

A nationwide survey «polls-Sputnik» held on 20-21 June 2017 among 1.2 thousand people at the age of 18 years. Survey method — telephone interviews, the statistical error does not exceed 3.5%.
