The ban on the sale of alcohol-containing products helped to reduce the number of poisonings and deaths by 20-50% depending on the region, told reporters the head of Rospotrebnadzor Anna Popova.

«Today we can say about its effectiveness, reducing the number of deaths from poisoning with ethanol, and the reduction in the number of poisonings from 20 to 50% in different regions in the Russian Federation», — said Popov.

Retail trade of non-food alcohol-containing products were suspended for 30 days from December 23 last year after a mass poisoning of people in a number of regions fake cosmetic «Hawthorn». Then the ban was extended for another 60 days — to mid-April, and in late March, Popova reported that it will be extended for another 90 days.
