He stressed that the Russian organizing Committee on preparation and Assembly is in close cooperation with the Secretariat of the Union. «The official website of the Assembly where is all the necessary useful information for visitors and participants», said Kosachev.

He recalled that the 100th IPU Assembly took place in Moscow in 1998. «Russia had the rare privilege once again to host the world parliamentary community and to demonstrate to the world our hospitality and welcome,» said the Senator.

According to Kosachev, it is already possible to speak about a full agenda in St. Petersburg. Even before the official opening ceremony on 14 October, the Tavricheskiy Palace will host the meetings of the Executive Committee, the Committee on human rights in respect of parliamentarians, the Committee on Middle East questions, the Forum of women parliamentarians.

He added that the main theme of the Assembly will officially become «the Promotion of cultural pluralism and peace through interfaith and interethnic dialogue». «This topic will allow for a General debate in the spirit of respect and the promotion of intercultural dialogue to strengthen peace and social stability, creating a climate for mutual understanding at all levels,» — said the MP.

Kosachev is sure that the Assembly in St. Petersburg will go down in history of MPs and by reason of the election of a new Chairman of the oldest political international organization in the world. The Russian delegation has already started consultations with the candidates nominated for the post of national and geopolitical groups, he added.

«We believe that the next President of the IPU should continue a constructive and meaningful work of the current head of sabera Chowdhury with all the parliaments of the member, based on the principles of equality, respect of sovereignty and mutual interests», — said the Senator.

The Assembly will adopt a single resolution «on the 20th anniversary of the universal Declaration on democracy: the unity of our diversity», initiated by the Russian delegation, the Rapporteur of which is the Deputy speaker of the Federation Council Ilyas Umakhanov. Currently, the co-rapporteurs are in the final stages of agreeing the final text of the resolution, which should be officially handed over to the MPs no later than 1 July this year, noted Kosachev.

The Senator said that under discussion is an initiative of colleagues from the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly, who proposed to establish an international day of parliamentarism June 30 in honor of the first Assembly of the IPU in 1889. «We hope that this idea will be supported by a majority of the parliamentary delegations in St. Petersburg», — said the legislator.
