NASA took the decision to disengage experimental deployable solar panels of the International space station (ISS) after unsuccessful attempts to roll it up for later return to Earth, said NASA.

«After a week of successful test experimental deployable solar panels (Roll-Out Solar Array, ROSA) attempts to curtail its not successful. According to the results on Monday morning of the meeting, the management team of the ISS decided to dump it directly from the place of its attachment on the end of robot manipulator where it was after full deployment in a working condition», — said the Agency.

Earlier it was planned that at the end of the experiment folded solar battery will be placed in the cargo Bay of the space truck Dragon, who will return to Earth in early July.

The office noted that the possibility of undocking was discussed and prepared in preparation of different variants of the experiment. «After undocking ROSA will not pose any threat to the ISS and will not affect arriving at the station (space) ships,» — noted in NASA. In the official account of the ISS on Twitter posted a video in which a comprehensive battery otstykovyvatsya from the arm and «floats» from the ISS.

ROSA is a new type of solar cell that unfolds in a space more compact than existing solar panels of the station. The experiment, during which experts studied the strength and behaviour of the new construction was started on 18 June with the deployment of solar panels, fixed to the manipulator Canadarm2.
