The European broadcasting Union (EBU) does not intend to impose sanctions on Russian «First channel» for refusing to broadcast the music competition «Eurovision» in 2017, but the channel would be reprimanded for not participating in mandatory meeting of heads of delegation, told RIA Novosti press-service of the EBU.

«Eurovision-2017» was held in may in Kiev. To represent Russia at the competition was Yulia Samoilova with a song about love the Flame Is Burning, but the security Service of Ukraine has banned the actress entry into the country for three years because of her performances in the Crimea. The European broadcasting Union offered Russia to broadcast the contest via a satellite or to change the participant. On «the First channel» called these options unacceptable and in this situation did not consider it possible to broadcast the contest.

«Regarding the speculation about possible sanctions against the Russian member of the EBU «First channel», which refused to participate, and to broadcast the competition, the reference group recommended not to take such action at the present time. When this reference group was reprimanded «the First channel» for refusing to participate in the mandatory meeting of heads of delegations, which took place in Kiev in March this year, not for refusing to broadcast the song contest», — said the representative of the EBU.

According to the representative broadcasting Union, such violation of the rules «the First channel» was dictated by the situation in which the Russian artist was not allowed to participate in the contest in Ukraine.

On the «First channel», RIA Novosti did not provide comments on this situation.

The press service of the EBU also confirmed that the management Committee broadcasting Union reference group recommended that «to impose a substantial fine on National public television company of Ukraine, complying with the provisions of the competition».

Earlier, Reuters quoted the statement of the EBU, according to which Ukraine is facing a large fine due to a serious delay in the organization of the song contest «Eurovision-2017», held in Kiev, and unwillingness to cooperate with the EBU on the occasion of Russia’s participation in the contest.
