Politics prevails over economy, said Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, commenting on the extension of EU sanctions against Russia; he added that the reaction of our state will be adequate.

On Wednesday, the EU Council by written procedure, not involving the conduct of meetings adopted a formal decision to extend by six months of economic restrictive measures against Russia in force until the end of July 2017. Therefore, the Board consolidated the political decision taken by the leaders of the countries-members of EU at the summit on 22 June.

«Unfortunately, our European partners continue that the most constructive line in relation to our state. Once again politics takes over the economy, well, in General, by and large, over common sense,» Medvedev said at a government meeting.

According to the Chairman of the Russian government, Russia will prepare an adequate response to the measures and extend current restrictions in relation to the EU.

«We will react adequately. So yesterday we discussed this issue with the President. The government will make proposals about how to extend the retaliatory measures by one year, until 31 December 2018», — said Medvedev.
