. Large hadron Collider set a new record for the number of colliding particles, their density and luminosity, pushing between them over 2.5 thousand beams of protons, the press service of CERN.

The large hadron Collider for the second year running in new mode, colliding beams of protons at energy of 13 TeV, where scientists hope to find the first traces of «new physics» beyond the Standard model.

In early may of this year the TANK came out of another home and resumed his work, which in August last year was a big disappointment. Traces of hypothetical superheavy particles with a mass of 750 GeV, the scientists found in the results of observation of 2015 was a coincidence that forced the physicists to actually re-start the search for «new physics».

Just five weeks after restarting the TANK this year, according to CERN, the accelerator managed to set a new record, forming the record and until the maximum possible number of particle beams – 2556 bunches of protons, travelling in a 27-kilometer ring of the Collider in opposite directions at relativistic speeds.

In total, the number of protons in the LHC tunnel at that time exceeded 100 billion, which is also a record high value, and the number of collisions and their brightness exceeded expectations of scientists about 1.5 times.

Such a large number of collisions and high intensity has allowed the scientific team to TANK a huge amount of data for the last two weeks, about six reverse femtobarn. The same amount of information about particle collisions, scientists have obtained for the first five years of operation of the Collider, which in turn was five times more than what has been accumulated for all time of existence of particle accelerators before the construction of the TANK.

These achievements are likely to join the list of «feats» CERN in General and BUCK in particular, which has already managed to get into the Guinness book of records, including the discovery of the Higgs boson and historical records on the frequency of collisions of particles and their density inside the Collider.

These records, as noted by the representatives of CERN, will not last long – in the next few weeks the TANK will be temporarily stopped for a few weeks, and the researchers plan to make some modifications in the main source of particles, synchrotron SPS, and other parts of the Collider, which can make the collision beams of protons are even more striking.
