The size of the state debt of Italy in may 2017 reached a historical high, an increase of almost 2,279 trillion euros, reported Friday the country’s Central Bank.

The previous negative record was set in April of this year, when sovereign debt was 2.27 trillion euros.

Thus, according to Bulletin Bankitalia, compared to April of this year, the debt burden rose more than 8 billion euros, and this was mainly due to the increase of the expenses of the administration, an increase of 7 billion euros.

The size of Italy’s public debt last year rose by 2.07% (about 45 billion Euro) and December 31, 2016 amounted to 2,217 trillion euros.
