More than 60 thousand people took Monday part in the procession in Ekaterinburg on the anniversary of the assassination of the Royal Romanov family, according to the Yekaterinburg diocese.

«In the night from 16 to 17 July, the anniversary of the murder of the Holy Royal family, Yekaterinburg hosted the Royal penitential procession from the place of slaughter to the place of concealment of remains – today there is a monastery in honor of Saint Regal martyrs… Headed the procession of the hierarchs. According to preliminary estimates, the March was attended by over 60 thousand people, which is the same level as last year», — stated in the message.

The procession began immediately after the divine Liturgy, headed by Metropolitan of Astana and Kazakhstan Alexander. About three o’clock in the morning after divine Liturgy, believers began prayer procession route, which in 1918 was driven to the murdered members of the Imperial family: in the town centre, VISA, Taganskiy Ryad, Sorting, village Shuvakish.

Throughout the progress of the pilgrims helped 25 mobile teams, consisting of priests, sisters of mercy and volunteers. They were given to the faithful on the water, and first aid.

Around 7.00 a.m. local time (5.00 GMT) column of the procession headed by the clergy reached the monastery of the Holy Royal passion-bearers at Ganina Yama. Pilgrims and clergy in the monastery were met by the ringing of bells.

Nicholas Romanov, the last Russian Emperor, whose reign was marked by economic development of Russia and simultaneously the growth of the revolutionary movement, which resulted in the revolution of 1905-1907 and 1917. Abdicated during the February revolution of 1917, was arrested along with his family, and then sent into exile in Tobolsk. He was shot on the night of 17 July 1918 in Yekaterinburg in the basement of a mining engineer Nicholas Ipatiev and his wife Empress Alexandra Feodorovna, their children and courtiers. Glorified among the saints of the Russian Orthodox Church as a Martyr on 20 August 2000.
