At least 35 people were killed and 18 injured in lightning strikes in the Indian state of Orissa, reports the New Indian Express.

Previously reported 14 dead and six injured due to the bad weather. If on Sunday, the disaster has exposed coastal regions in the North-East of the country, then later the storm front had shifted to far from the coastal zone areas.

The greatest number of victims on Monday recorded in the districts of Sambalpur and Cuttack — three of the victims in each of them. In the district of Cuttack in the city of Amagad lightning struck the group of eight students of the medical College, all of them were hospitalized but soon discharged after treatment.

Annually from lightning strikes in India kill hundreds of people. A large part of the deaths occur in pregassona and monsoon seasons (may-September). Thus, according to the meteorological Department of India, for the year 2016 from lightning strikes killed 415 people. Thunderstorms are the third natural disaster in terms of mortality in India after heat and floods (700 and 475 victims in 2016, respectively).
