The prosecution of the Zhytomyr journalist’s treason is another proof that the Ukrainian authorities are trying to exclude from the information space in a different point of view on events in the country, said Secretary of the Union of journalists of Russia (szhr), member of the Executive Committee of the International Federation of journalists (IFJ) Timur Shafir.

Earlier Wednesday, the press service of the security service of Ukraine reported that the Zhytomyr journalist suspects of treason, the question on election concerning it a preventive measure; according to the media, we are talking about Basil Myravitski, he previously worked in the online edition of the «Journal of Zhitomir». According to the Department, prepared by the journalist of the article was «published in the six sites, which were administered from the Russian Federation and the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine».

As noted, during pre-trial investigation was conducted by the linguistic and forensic psychological examination of the texts of the journalist and according to experts, its materials contain «incitement to ethnic strife within the country between Ukraine and neighboring friendly countries.»

«One of the articles Basil the Myravitski, written by him in 2014 at the peak of the Maidan hysteria – was called «Ukraine: the sterilization of the information space in the interests of the Maidan». Despite the past three years, it is difficult to describe the situation more accurately. The process of sterilization and Stripping of the informational space in Ukraine continues crackdown on journalists that have different «than normal» point of view on what is happening in the country. The accusations against standard: treason, separatism, correspondence with the «Russian curators», — said Shafir.

The main Kiev square — Maidan Nezalezhnosti (Independence square) — was occupied by supporters of European integration November 21, 2013, immediately after the statement of the government of Azarov to suspend the signing of Association with EU. Later Maidan became the epicenter of confrontation between security forces and radicals, the clashes have resulted in dozens of victims.

In his opinion, «the current Ukrainian authorities are trying by all means to distill the information space of the country, to wash from it all, critical or simply a different perspective on current processes.»

«However, if the harm caused by distilled water the human body can still be disputes in respect of the information space, everything is obvious. Where there is only one point of view, there is monopoly and dictatorship. No matter how democratic slogans and European traditions of openness, it does not cover,» — said the Secretary of the Russian Union of journalists.
